Hey Microsoft Teams users, do you like listening to music during a Teams call but don’t want your music to be heard on the call? Perhaps you want the ability to share your music on the call so everyone can join in the dance party? Well here comes Microsoft to the rescue!
Starting in late January, Microsoft is rolling out a new feature for Teams that uses Machine Learning based noise suppression to filter out background music. The roll-out will be completed in several stages which is scheduled to be completed by late April to all Microsoft Teams users.
Once the new feature has been applied to your organization, you will see the following notification if music is detected during a call.
There are two options available in the notification. Dismiss and High fidelity mode. This will give the end user the choice whether music is indeed an unwanted background noise, such as when calling into a meeting from a coffee shop, or if music is a desired signal, such as when participating in a music lesson. In the example of calling from a coffee shop, you would click Dismiss to suppress any music which may be playing. In the example of a music lesson, you would click High fidelity mode so that whatever music is being played locally, is also included on the Teams call.
Microsoft does not provide specific dates as to when new features are implemented. The most likely chain of events is that one morning when you open Teams you will see a notification that you have been updated to the latest version, and going forward you will see the new notification in your calls.
